What will change in October?
BMW has announced the launch of a new Maps experience for cars with Operating System X from October 2026. The central display will combine the route, the car's surroundings and information about the operation of the driving assistants. The map will show the car's position in the lane and at the corresponding level of the junction.
The technology is being developed by BMW using map data from Mapbox. The manufacturer links it to Highway Assistant and Highway & City Assistant: the range of features will depend on the country, city, road and vehicle equipment.
Why does the driver need a single image?
The practical meaning of the update is to switch between the navigator's prompt and the assistants' indication less. At a multi-level interchange, this helps to understand which lane the route chooses and what the car recognizes. More convenient visualization in itself does not change the driver's responsibility and does not turn the car into a drone.
What to check before buying a BMW
For a specific car, check the operating system version, list of options and region of support. The name BMW Maps in an older car does not guarantee a new interface. If the car is imported, ask for confirmation of the availability of connected functions in the country of future operation, and after the update, read the instructions for the installed version.
