New features included in the basic equipment
On August 27, BMW announced the expansion of the standard set of active safety features with the release of the Neue Klasse. The first production model with the new solutions was the iX3; the manufacturer will then call it the i3, X5 and 7 Series. The assistants cover driving, parking and passenger exit.
One notable feature is the hazard warning when opening the door with the option to actively delay its opening. Its purpose is to help avoid collisions with cyclists or other road users from the side.
What does this change in everyday operation?
Protection is not limited to when the car is moving fast. Narrow city streets, exiting parking spaces and dropping off children also require attention. The systems can provide additional guidance, but the driver and passengers still need to check the space around the car.
Checking the equipment and repairs
The same model name does not mean the same set of assistants in different years of production. For a used BMW, check the equipment by VIN and check the operation of the cameras and radars. After body repair, it is important to find out whether the manufacturer's required settings and calibrations have been performed: the presence of a button or icon does not yet confirm the correct operation of the system.
