Three electric motors in a compact AMG
On August 27, the Dutch press office of Mercedes-Benz announced the opening of orders for the Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 4MATIC+. The new electric model uses three axial-flux motors and an 800-volt architecture. The total claimed power is 500 kW, or 680 hp.
The manufacturer quotes acceleration to 100 km/h in 3.0 seconds and charging from 10 to 80% in approximately 22 minutes under appropriate conditions at a compatible DC station.
What is interesting about the drive scheme?
Independent control of the electric motors allows the distribution of traction between the axles and the rear wheels. This is used for controllability and power delivery. However, maximum acceleration and charging performance depend on the battery condition, temperature and mode of use.
What to check when ordering internationally
The start of orders in the Netherlands does not mean the same availability and price in other countries. Compare the body, equipment, charging port and assistant package. If the car is imported from another market, specify separately the support of digital services and warranties. For daily use, also evaluate the comfort of the tires, the insurance budget and the convenience of home charging.
