Record-breaking efficiency under test conditions

On September 14, Volkswagen presented the Mission Efficiency. For the prototype, the company announced an average consumption of 6.89 kWh per 100 km in its test. The car uses series-production technologies from the MEB+ platform with front-wheel drive, related to the ID. Polo and ID. Cross.

The bodywork plays a significant role: the claimed drag coefficient is 0.158. The manufacturer also describes closed rear wheels, an optimized underbody and special solutions to reduce rolling resistance.

A prototype is not a price quote.

Mission Efficiency demonstrates technical capabilities, but is not sold as a ready-made production model. The result of a special test cannot be equated to the everyday consumption of any ID. The car has its own dimensions, aerodynamics and configuration.

What is useful for choosing a regular EV

The news reminds us that the range depends not only on the battery capacity. The body, tires, speed and auxiliary equipment affect energy consumption. When comparing electric cars in the catalog, check the measurements on the same cycle and real conditions of use. Low consumption during the test does not replace checking the battery condition in a specific used car.
