What's changing in the lineup
On August 25, Renault opened orders for the updated Renault 5 E-Tech range in European markets where the model is sold. The 40 and 52 kWh battery versions receive technical and aerodynamic changes: the range increases to 315 and 430 km WLTP respectively.
Separately announced is a new entry-level Five with an 80 kW engine, a 36.5 kWh LFP battery and a range of up to 305 km WLTP. Its implementation, like some of the other updates, is expected in the coming weeks.
DC charging changes the convenience of the basic version
The new Five should support DC fast charging with up to 80 kW, along with an onboard AC unit with 6.6 kW. This is important for trips outside the usual home route. However, the peak power does not equal the average over the entire charging session.
Checking a specific vehicle
When comparing the early and updated Five, check the battery, engine and DC port in the specification. The same name for the equipment can hide different features. Evaluate the route, available charging and climate; the catalog range alone does not indicate how many stops will be needed on a long trip.
