The next generation of electric racing

On August 31, Porsche published an overview of the development of the 975 RSE for Formula E. The GEN4 car is being prepared for the 2026/2027 season. The manufacturer says it will have a maximum power of 600 kW, a top speed of 335 km/h and acceleration to 100 km/h in 1.8 seconds.

Aerodynamics have become more important as speeds have increased. Different configurations are envisaged: more downforce for qualifying and less drag for races where energy needs to be used economically.

Recovery as part of racing strategy

During deceleration, the car returns energy to the battery. For the 975 RSE, Porsche claims recuperation of up to 700 kW and a usable battery capacity of 51.25 kWh. These parameters relate to the special racing technology and regulations, not to charging a road-going electric car at a public charging station.

What conclusion is useful for the buyer of an electric car?

The news shows why power, aerodynamics and efficiency should be evaluated together. For a conventional EV, the energy consumption on your route, charging speed and battery health are more practical. Comparing the range directly with the duration of a Formula E race is incorrect: the conditions and purpose of use are different.
