New features via software update
On September 1, Volvo Cars announced the start of the rollout of the EX30 update for new and existing owners. Among the changes are V2L, which means powering external devices from the traction battery, as well as a refreshed interface with a context bar and settings menu.
According to the manufacturer, the V2L provides up to 3 kW at 16 amps via an adapter connected to an external charging port. The system stops delivering power when the battery charge drops below 20%.
V2L and Plug & Charge solve different problems
V2L powers individual devices; it should not be confused with automatically connecting the car to the home power grid. Plug & Charge makes it easy to start a charging session at compatible stations. Volvo claims this feature is for certain European markets, not for all charging worldwide.
What to check for the EX30 owner
The update is rolling out gradually, so check its availability for your car. You need the right adapter, compatible device, and following the charging instructions. Consider the energy you will spend on the external device when planning your next trip. For the imported version, check the regional conditions of the software and charging services separately.
